Temple Israel of Charlotte celebrated its 120-year anniversary by renovating the more than 30- year-old building to improve its non-ritual spaces and better foster the principles of relational Judaism. The organization had a list of maintenance and renovation objectives that required more than $3,000,000 in investments. The building committee and Board of Trustees needed to prioritize these objectives to match the $1,800,000 budget and impactful the congregation most. Starrdesign & ADW Architects helped create a new entrance and lobby sequence, multi-purpose “living room” spaces and a significantly more efficient and collaborative administrative wing that decreased the number of management staff needed. These changes have been incredibly well received by the congregation and will set the stage for another 120 years of Conservative Judaism in Charlotte.
